Audi/ The Audi Motherboard

At this year’s Design Miami/, Audi presents the new Audi A8 with the origin of its nature as a R&D high-technology project. In its fourth generation, the flagship model again provides the benchmark for Vorsprung durch Technik with a new design language, an innovative touchscreen operating concept, and a systematically electrified drive. The Audi A8 is also the first production automobile in the world to have been developed for conditional automated driving. From 2018, Audi will gradually be taking piloted driving functions such as parking pilot, garage pilot, and traffic jam pilot into production.

Audi engineers are giving visitors an intimate insight into the core of Audi’s research and development facility. A mock-up for the testing of the electric and electronic components from the various stages in the development process of the new Audi A8 is on display. Control units are fixed on huge boards to test and approve the interaction of all electric and electronic functions of the vehicle before it goes into production. The exhibit illustrates the impressive complexity of the interaction and the massive data volume exchanged in the vehicle.

Audi has commissioned installations by international designers and architects, including Bjarke Ingels, Reed Kram and Clemens Weisshaar, and Konstantin Grcic, thus underlining the brand’s commitment to fostering design culture. Each of Audi’s installations has highlighted key elements of its technological advancements and married automotive design with the most current developments in different fields of design, urban planning, and architecture.
